First and foremost is watching your manners. Etiquette is a highly important aspect in selling to people. Whether you're on the phone, out to lunch or competing with another sales agent for face time, you'll get a lot further with sugar than you will with vinegar.

In relation to having good manners, be respectful of the customers' time. Ask them if they have a minute to spare. You could cost yourself more than a sales call if you run right over someone without clarifying this point. Simple things such as a sitting position, arm crossing or fidgeting can reveal a whole lot of information on what they are actually thinking.

Last but not least is to not forget to say "Thank you!". There are millions of salespeople in the world today and it just makes you wonder how many take the time to write a personal thank you to the person who carved out a spot in their day to listen to a sales pitch. It can be as simple as a two-liner but it will definitely place you in front of a whole lot who didn't.
